I have bearded dragons, and have always hated having multiple lamps and domes on top of the tanks. My local herp supply store had one of these hoods in the size I needed, so I bought it just to give it a try. It is FABULOUS!
It accomodates a flourescent tube, a Power Sun, and two regular flood/basking bulbs. I don't use it as a sliding hood, since I have the 36" on a 40 gallon breeder sized reptile tank; it just sits on top of the tank and I can slide the sliding screen lid on with the hood sitting in place.
Having the lights on seperate switches and seperate plugs isn't that helpful for me, since the lights in the tank need to be all on, but I can see where it would be beneficial for some species.
The only down side is that the screen that comes with the hood (to protect any animals from touching the bulbs) isn't low enough to accomodate mercury-vapor bulbs (or coil bulbs, if you use them.) If using the hood the way I do, that isn't a problem.
